How does Microblading Work?
Eyebrow Microblading is a form of semi-permanent makeup where pigment is implanted into the skin.
Once healed, the microbladed design is waterproof, smudge-proof and lasts approximately 12-18 months.*
This treatment is an excellent solution for anyone with sparse, undefined eyebrows who desire a fuller look or improved shape.
Microblading is performed by manually depositing pigment beneath the surface of the skin using a hand tool with tiny, sterile, pins that are disposed of after each use. The tool is used to implant pigment into the upper skin layer, enabling an artist to create very fine, natural-looking hair stokes and other enhancing techniques. A topical numbing cream is applied to minimize client discomfort. The procedure is completed in 2 sessions: an initial session and a touch up session approximately 3-12 weeks later.
*Data based on results from clients who completed two microblading sessions 3-12 weeks apart.
Note: Pigment retention may vary depending upon a number of factors including skin type, pigment color, age, aftercare, sun exposure, skin product use, lifestyle, immune system, medications and other factors. Additionally, antacids, thyroid and anxiety medications have been reported to interfere with permanent makeup pigment retention and/or shifting the pigment tone.
is it a tattoo? how old do i need to be?
Does microblading hurt?
Short answer: You barely feel a thing.
A highly effective topical numbing products are applied before and throughout the treatment to minimize any discomfort. Pain thresholds vary from person to person and can be influenced by circumstances including a client’s menstrual cycle, whether they are a frequent smoker, if they have fibromyalgia or other sensitivities or resistance to numbing agents. Clients often describe feeling a “light scratching” or “combing” sensation during the treatment.
what is the procedure like?
forward. Once the brow shape is approved, numbing cream is applied and the microblading process begins. Numbing is applied throughout the procedure to minimize discomfort.
What are the benefits of microblading?
Microblading offers a natural-looking, long lasting way to achieve full, defined eyebrows. Because microbladed eyebrows look realistic and withstand day-to-day activities (such as bathing, swimming, sweating), it is a preferable alternative to daily makeup.
In microblading, the eyebrow’s look is achieved by etching a number of individual hair strokes into the eyebrow’s skin area. Each hair stroke is designed to look like the eyebrow’s real hair. The result is fuller and more defined brows that look more realistic than makeup to the human eye. If you use a talented eyebrow designer for this service, good luck trying to tell the difference between your actual hair and your microbladed ones.
In light of the benefits, people use microblading for both beauty enhancements and corrective procedures. For example, clients have used microblading to: (1) increase the thickness/fullness, (2) change the shape/style, (3) cover scars, gaps, and tattoos, and (4) improve facial symmetry.
If you are curious as to how this might look on you, or would like to hear my recommendations for your brows, send me a few photos and I’d be happy to take a look and offer you my thoughts.
Who are good candidates for microblading?
Individuals may consider microblading in order to:
- Achieve a thicker looking brow
- Reshape brows to frame the face
- Fill in bare and/or sparse areas
- Restore eyebrows from hair loss or over-tweezing
- Cover unwanted scars or tattoos
Who are not good candidates for microblading?
Microblading is suitable for most clients, however certain conditions or factors could compromise application or healing and therefore should be avoided. Such contraindications include clients who:
- Are currently pregnant or nursing
- Are Diabetic or slow/poor healers
- Are receiving chemotherapy or have received it within the past year (consult your doctor)
- Have epilepsy or a history of seizures
- Are using a Pacemaker or have a heart condition
- Are currently on blood thinners
- Have weak immune systems due to an organ transplant
- Suffer from skin irritations or Psoriasis near the treated area (rashes, sunburn, acne, etc.)
- Are Sick (cold, flu, etc.)
- Have had Botox or fillers applied in the brow area or upper region of the face within the in the past week
- Are allergic to lidocaine, numbing agents , pigments, etc.
- Have infectious diseases or viral infections
- Have very oily skin, as they may experience decreased pigment retention and require additional touch ups. The production of sebum can cause hair strokes to heal with a diffused, powdery look
- Are frequent smokers, as they may experience accelerated fading resulting in the need of more frequent touchups
- Are anemic or iron deficient, as they may experience more bleeding and/or bruising during and after the procedure as well as accelerated fading requiring more frequent touchups
- Have previously applied eyebrow tattoos or microblading at another location
- Show up for their appointment with a new tan or a sunburn, as they will need to reschedule and forfeit their deposit. When the skin exfoliates from a sunburn, it will take the pigment with it.
- Have been on prescription Accutane in the past year. Clients MUST wait at least one year before considering this procedure.
Note: Clients who are frequent smokers, have fibromyalgia or are resistant to numbing agents may experience more discomfort during the procedure as the numbing products may not be as effective
How will this look on my face?
If you are curious about how this might look on your face, or if you have a specific look you’re trying to achieve, and would like to hear my recommendations, I’d be happy to take a look and offer my thoughts.
You can email a few photographs of your eyebrows for review to SachaSelhiStudio@gmail.com and I’ll follow up. Many clients have found this helpful. Or if preferred, you can also schedule an in-person consultation at the studio.
How many microblading sessions will i need?
For most clients, typically two sessions achieve the desired results. For optimal pigmentation retention, I generally* recommend the following:
1) Two microblading sessions, where the second session occurs 3 to 12 weeks after the first one.
2) One touchup every 12-18 months to maintain results.
That said, please keep in mind that the best treatment option for you may vary depending on certain factors, such as skin type, hair color, and your desired results. For example, individuals with light colored hair (e.g., blonde) may require three sessions for optimal pigmentation retention, whereas individuals with dark colored hair may only need two.
You can expect to discuss treatment options in-person during your first appointment with Sacha.
You can also inquire ahead by sending photographs of your eyebrows for review to SachaSelhiStudio@gmail.com.
*Expectations above are based on results from clients who completed two microblading sessions 3-12 weeks apart.
Note: Pigment retention is dependent upon a number of factors including skin type, pigment color, age, aftercare, sun exposure, skin product use, lifestyle, immune system, medications and other factors.
Additionally, antacids, thyroid and anxiety medications have been reported to interfere with permanent makeup pigment retention and/or shifting the pigment tone.
HOW LONG DOES MICROBLADING LAST
Two sessions can last 12-24 months. Results will vary.
Microblading treatments are considered semi-permanent and do not wash off. Unlike tattoo makeup that changes color over time, microbladed pigment deposits slowly fade over time as skin regenerates. Typical retention is between 12 and 18 months* for most skin types and lifestyles. Please note that final results CAN NOT be guaranteed as each unique skin type will accept pigments differently and fade at different rates.
Multiple sessions are typical for microblading procedures, with a new procedure requiring a minimum of 2 visits. It is recommended that clients get an annual touch up every 12-18 months* to maintain crisp, fresh looking hair strokes. Results vary with each client. Microblading pigments gently fade over time, allowing an artist to make changes to color and shape over the years as a client’s natural hair color and facial structure changes.
How will i look immediately after? what is the healing process?
Clients are provided with an aftercare kit and detailed aftercare instructions to ensure best healing. Aftercare includes cleansing, moisturizing, protecting the treated area and minimizing exposure the sun and activities that involve water, steam or sweating for approximately 7-14 days after the treatment.
How will my eyebrows look after time?
Healed color and pigment retention are reviewed at the touchup and adjustments are made. The pigment in your eyebrows will eventually begin to fade to a softer, more powdery look. This happens with all clients as the skin regenerates. It is recommended that clients get a touch up every 12-18 months* to maintain crisp, fresh looking hair strokes. Results vary with each client. Clients who chose to get more frequent touchups may book a refresher treatment within 12 months of their initial appointment.
Additional sessions will be charged according to our current pricing.
*After initial treatment and touchup within 12 weeks. Pigment retention is dependent upon a number of factors including skin type, pigment color, age, aftercare, sun exposure, use of certain skin products, lifestyle, immune system, medications and other factors. Additionally, antacids, thyroid and anxiety medications have been reported to interfere with permanent makeup pigment retention and/or shifting the pigment tone.
What is the precare and aftercare like?
What is the longterm aftercare like?
To best maintain and extend microbladed results, clients should avoid exfoliation of the treated area. To do this, a good sunscreen should be applied daily AFTER treated area is healed. Sun exposure will cause premature fading. Skin care products and treatments that encourage exfoliation or regeneration should not be applied to the treated area. Clients receiving chemical peels, laser treatments or other procedures should advise their technician to avoid working in the brow area. Careful application must be taken to avoid microbladed eyebrows.
What factors will affect my microbladed eyebrows?
Factors that will affect your microbladed eyebrows include:
- Regeneration of skin cells: The longer the regeneration takes, the longer the pigment holds.
- Sun exposure: The sun will break down pigment unevenly. All clients are advised to use sun protection after the treated area has healed to prolong best results.
- Pigment shade: Lighter colors fade faster than darker shades
- Bleeding during the procedure: Any bleeding during the procedure will reduce pigment absorption. Alcohol, caffeine, and certain medications that act as blood thinners and should not be taken prior to your appointment unless advised by a doctor. Blood thinning activities such as exercise should also be avoided prior to a scheduled treatment.
- Skin type: Oily skin and mature skin types do not retain pigment as quickly as others and may require different application, healing as well as additional touchups for optimal results.
- Lifestyle: Smoking and prolonged exposure to sun will adversely effect pigment retention.
- Skin care products: Chemicals and exfoliants including Retinols, Retin-A, AHA, BHA , anti-aging, and acne-control skincare cause rapid regeneration of skin and rapidly shed brow pigment resulting in poor retention. Avoid application in the brow area.
- Age: Mature skin may not retain pigment well and may require additional appointments for optimal results.
- Medications: Blood thinning medications as well as Acutane and chemotherapy are contraindicated. Clients using these medications must consult their doctor before booking an appointment. Additionally, antacids, thyroid and anxiety medications have been reported to interfere with permanent makeup pigment retention and/or shifting the pigment color. CLIENTS ARE NOT ADVISED TO DISCONTINUE USE OF ANY MEDICATIONS UNLESS DIRECTED TO DO SO BY THEIR PHYSICIAN.
- Health: Certain health conditions and immune disorders can effect how the skin retains pigment
Please note that final results CAN NOT be guaranteed as each unique skin type will accept pigments differently and fade at different rates.

what is a keratin lash lift treatment?
A Lash Lift is an eyelash perm that curls lashes. The visible benefits last approximately 4-8 weeks. This treatment permanently curls lash hairs, but the period of visible benefit is dependent on each clients natural lash cycle. As eyelashes naturally fall out and regrow (according to an individuals lash cycle) the curl is less visible. Clients with fuller or longer eyelashes usually enjoy longer lasting results. It is encouraged and recommended that clients use a lash growth serum to enhance the effect. There are many effective serums on the market, recommendations can be made upon request. This treatment includes a nourishing, keratin lash conditioning treatment. Add $20 for lash tint which washes away and lasts approximately 2-3 weeks.
Aftercare requires that you keep lashes dry for 12 hours after treatment. Mascara can be applied after the 12 hour period. Avoid applying product on tinted lashes to best preserve and extend the effect.
Please be prepared to remove contact lenses and makeup prior to treatment.
